On July 3rd 2014, the Japanese Society for the Preservation of Birds met representatives from the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences at their institution in Vilnius.  There, the two organizations created an agreement for a joint project researching the little tern.

　　　　　　

A contract was signed by the Director of the Japanese Society for the Preservation of birds, Prof. Dr. Aivas Ragauskas (Vice President of Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences), and Dr. Petras Kurlavicius (Professor of Biology).  Among the members present were Egidijus Meilūnas (Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan), Galina Meilūniene (Representative and spouse to the Ambassador of Lithuania to Japan), Kazuko Shiraishi (Ambassador of Japan to Lithuania), members of Lithuania’s Ministry of Environment and Ministry of Agriculture.

Roughly one year has passed since the signing of the joint agreement. Our Society’s dream of a joint project has taken a firm step toward the conservation and uncovering the mystery of the little tern migratory route. 　In the future, we would like to improve communication and successfully exchange data as well as our technical know-how gained through research with the researchers from the Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences.

Letter of Appreciation from the Ambassador for Lithuania to Japan

February 18, 2015 the Japanese Society for the Preservation of Birds received a letter of appreciation at the Lithuanian embassy from the Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania to Japan for the mutual efforts on building relations in the field of environmental protection.
